SUMMARY:The San Diego Highland Games
DESCRIPTION:Join Banshee in the Kitchen for the amazing Scottish Highland Games in San Diego! \nJoin us at one of our two stages\, where we’ll have wonderful live music performed all weekend. We have our main stage\, located over near the vendor and clans booths. \nOr join us at our fully-covered beer garden stage\, where we’ll have several Scottish-inspired beer options on tap. \nWhen celebrating in times of peace one of the Highlanders’ favorite pastimes was the tainchel. For these “great hunts” very often several clans would combine. Chieftains would send word to the clansmen that such an event was planned and when and where they should assemble. After a successful hunt a great feast and celebration would be held. Then the rival clansmen would test each other’s prowess at various sports – running\, jumping\, wrestling\, or primitive forms of weight putting with stones\, or divided into roughly equal sides vying against each other in a very early form of camanachd or shinty. \nLastly the clansmen would vie with each other in piping and in dancing\, the pipers taking it in turns to demonstrate their skills and the clansmen to demonstrate their agility and neatness of movement by dancing complicated steps to the pipe music. These relaxations were in effect the forerunners of the modern Highland games.

SUMMARY:Living Traditions Anaheim Folk Concerts
DESCRIPTION:The following folk music concerts are presented by The Living Tradition. These concerts feature international and local artisans of contemporary folk music and traditional folk music.  \nTo view a list of artists who have performed in The Living Tradition concert series\, click Concert History\, or scroll to the bottom of this page. These events are partially funded by a grant from the Anaheim Arts Council.\n \nConcerts are held on the 3rd Saturday of most months at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center\, 250 E. Center St.\, in Anaheim (in the heart of Orange County).  Free parking is available in the adjacent parking lot\, or if full\, in the free parking structure on the north side of Center St. directly across from the Community Center. \nDoors open at 7:00 PM.  Concerts start at 7:30 PM\, unless otherwise noted. \nThe recommended donation is $25 per person ($20 with the Living Tradition membership)\, unless otherwise noted.  Children under 18 are FREE with paid adult.  \nCash or check only at the door. Online purchases are not supported at this time. \nConcert reservations are highly recommended.  To make a reservation\, call (714) 926-8244 (cell phone accepting voice or text messages)\, or send an e-mail to livingtraditionconcerts@gmail.com. \n  \nClick here to view Banshee in the Kitchen video.

Bring your dancing feet and a pocketful of greens (aka dollar bills)  for the silent auction. Who knows you may even find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! \nAll proceeds from the tickets sales will benefit Niles Main Street Association. \nThis event is open to the public – the more the merrier! It is a fundraising event for our Main Street association\, and the money we raise will be used to fund the free summer concerts and other free events we put on for the community. \n\nBecause it’s a fundraising including dinner and drink\, the tickets cost $50 and they are available for purchase at www.niles.org\, or at the door during the event.
